Tuesday, July 3, 2018

There are some great ways to celebrate Independence Day in Downtown on Wednesday:

EQT Flashes of Freedom Celebrate America
12:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. at Point State Park

This is Pittsburgh’s largest, free celebration of Independence Day, featuring live music all day, capped off with Pittsburgh’s favorite Idol – Gabby Barrett, free children’s activities, food and much, much more!

Heinz Field Fourth of July Celebration
2:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Heinz Field’s Fourth of July Celebration, presented by Miller Lite, is back for another exciting year!  Pittsburgh region’s largest Independence Day gathering featuring food, free concerts and entertainment, and the best view of the city’s annual fireworks display! This year’s music performances will be headlined by Country Music star Michael Ray.

Gates open at 2:00 p.m. and admission is free.

Fort Pitt in Point State Park
Fourth of July at Fort Pitt
11:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m.

Commemorate the Fourth of July by raising a 36-foot garrison flag in historic Point State Park with help from colonial re-enactors and scouts. Visitors to the Point can learn about Fort Pitt and Western Pennsylvania’s role in the American Revolution and experience 18th century military music.

Inside the museum, visitors can enjoy a scavenger hunt and crafts. Outside, learn how to march and drill from costumed interpreters and members of the Yinzer Singers, Pittsburgh’s premiere cross-genre chamber choir, will sing the National Anthem.

Fort Night – 18th Century Taverns
5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Explore the Fort Pitt Museum before the 4th of July fireworks in another after-hours event designed for guests 21 and older. Guests will enjoy light hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and 18th century-inspired treats provided by Roman Bistro, Vue 412, and Metz Culinary Management. Purchase tickets here.

Heinz History Center Flag Ceremony
12:00 – 12:30 p.m.
Gather in the History Center’s Great Hall for a very moving and patriotic flag ceremony. Join local veterans and museum visitors to help to unfurl a giant 36-foot American Flag. During the ceremony, participate in the National Anthem and a moment of silence for those who served our country. Then help to ceremoniously fold the flag with the help of fellow visitors.

Carnegie Science Center – 4th of July Blowout
6:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Celebrate the Fourth of July from the best viewpoint in town! Parking is free with your advanced ticket purchase. Come at noon, park, and stay all day to explore four floors of hands-on exhibits, including Highmark SportsWorks®, and get a timed ticket into THE ART OF THE BRICK – the new touring art exhibition made exclusively from LEGO® bricks.
