Out and About: Le Lyonnais

Monday, May 15, 2017

“French comfort food” was not a genre I even knew existed before last week. But once I heard that was the fare served at Le Lyonnais, the newest iteration from Big Y Group, I realized it was a genre I was extremely interested in trying.

The brand new restaurant sits in the space formerly occupied by Sonoma Grill at 947 Penn Ave. It features dishes inspired by family recipes of the owner, Yves Carreau, who is from Lyon, France.

A colleague and I checked it out this week and we were blown away by the food we tried. Confronted with many enticing choices, we found it difficult to narrow it down, so we split two dishes. The Croq’ Monsieur is a sandwich featuring smoked ham, creamy bechamel sauce, and plenty of cheese on thick, perfectly toasted brioche bread; Le Chien Chaud is a Parisian style hot dog with spicy Dijon, wrapped in a baguette from Five Points and served with incredible Parmesan white truffle fries. To finish it off, we split the chocolate mousse (pictured) and it was a smooth, rich end to a great meal.

For a sit-down lunch or special occasion, right within walking distance of the Cultural District’s theaters, Le Lyonnais is definitely a spot you should consider. To see the menus and hours, go here.
