Black History Month Events in Downtown

Monday, February 20, 2017

Celebrate Black History Month with these events going on this week in Downtown:

  • Through Tuesday, February 28: A Salute to First Responders | City County Building | “A Salute to First Responders” showcases the accomplishments of outstanding African-American police, fire, and EMS through photographs and other memorabilia.
  • Tuesday, February 21: The Reel Story – “Mr. Church” (pictured) | Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Downtown and Business | When a young girl and her dying mother are joined by a cook who comes to live with them, little do they know that their lives are about to change forever. Starring Eddie Murphy and Britt Robertson.
  • February 24 through February 26: Black Bottom Film Festival | August Wilson Center | The BBFF will feature age-old classics to contemporary independent Black Cinema. The showcased films in the festival will parallel the reoccurring themes of spirituality, family conflict, race and working class struggle that serve as the foundation of August Wilson’s award winning and internationally renowned “Pittsburgh Cycle” plays. The festival will also examine and discuss how filmmakers try to use art to uplift and confront, and have impact on American culture.
