Spring Shopping in Downtown 🌷

Spring is a time of renewal, whether that be updating your wardrobe with some warmer-weather pieces, sprucing up your home decor, or adding some seasonal treats to your pantry. Here’s a look at what’s coming to Downtown retail, grocers, and bakeries this spring:

Clothing & Accessories

BLP

Boutique La Passerelle (BLP, for short) was established on Wood Street in 2010 by Cidalia Duarte, an immigrant from Portugal. Cidalia brought European fashion not found anywhere else in the U.S. right here to the ‘Burgh.  She sold BLP to Adele Morelli in 2013, and Adele continues the trips to Portugal each season to import unique and exclusive pieces of clothing from Portugal, Spain, Italy and France.  Mix in the domestic clothing, shoes and accessories and BLP has the self-proclaimed aesthetic of European Fashion with Pittsburgh Flair. Their pieces are always unique, and they have some perfect options for spring.

Hours: Monday – Friday 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m, Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 4:00p.m.

Peter Lawrence

Located on Wood Street, Peter Lawrence stocks every type of outfit from work to weekend: business professional, business casual, casual, cocktail dresses, shoes, handbags and outerwear. In an effort to thank their loyal customers, Peter Lawrence gives 10% back on gift cards to Downtown residents/workers, and 5% to all other subscribers. Peter Lawrence is offering 10% off for the month of April, and currently has a 50% off winter clearance sale. They also have a new must-see line in for the spring season.

Hours: Monday – Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Joseph Orlando

Located in the historic Carlyle building, which they relocated to about a year ago, Joseph Orlando is a family-owned business with more than 60 distinguished years of experience in the menswear business. They believe in quality products sold at a fair price and delivered with a high level of service. For the upcoming season, Joseph Orlando is excited to feature sportswear and casual collections. New Italian brands and additions to their shoe collection are other new changes for the springtime.

Hours: Daily 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed Sunday

Steel City

Local lovebirds Brandon and Carly started Steel City to follow their dreams of owning their own Pittsburgh-centric business. What started in a garage has turned into a popular shop on Smithfield Street, selling Pittsburgh-themed t-shirts, hats, mugs, and more. Steel City has a constantly revolving inventory, but this spring they are excited to feature their new Comeback Kid line, which represents the efforts to build the city back up after the peak of the steel industry in Pittsburgh. They also have some baseball hats and tees to support our Buccos this season.

Hours: Monday – Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

love, Pittsburgh

love, Pittsburgh is a small shop on Liberty Avenue that carries various items from local artists. For the spring season, they are debuting some new favor-sized products including a mini candle line, Arborhouse favor-sized soaps, and love, Pittsburgh tea bags, perfect for weddings and other springtime events. For shoppers on the go, they also carry themed, pre-wrapped gift boxes. love, Pittsburgh will be debuting some of these items at the My Big Fake Wedding event as the Flashlight Factory in the Northside on April 18. They will also be open until 10:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26 to accommodate visitors of the Gallery Crawl.

Hours: Daily 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

PG&H

PG&H sells locally made home goods in an effort to increase retail in the Downtown market and promote the ‘maker’ movement. They have many new items coming for spring and summer, including new glassware, plate sets, barbeque utensils, pots and plant options, handmade pottery, and local food items (ex: Pigeon Bagel pop-ups every Friday in April). Redhawk Coffee has a bar inside the shop, and they will feature new mugs for the springtime. On Thursday, April 25, PG&H will be hosting a bridal trunk show. Be on the lookout for more maker pop-ups over the summertime!

Hours: PG&H store – Monday – Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Redhawk Coffee Bar – Monday – Saturday 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

FOOD

Market Street Grocery

Market Street Grocery is a one-stop shop specializing in prepared foods, fresh coffee, and Italian wines. They work with and carry products of local small businesses, like Pittsburgh Ice Cream Co. and 350 Bakery. In the warmer months, they will host a once-a-month block party starting in May outside the store with music, food, and more. Above the shop on the 3rd floor is an event space available for rent that overlooks Market Square.

Hours: The Market – Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Saturday & Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., The Wine Bar – Monday – Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Prantl’s Bakery

One of the most well-known bakeries in Pittsburgh, Prantl’s in Market Square can satisfy your sweet tooth. They received the Gold “Quest for the Best” Award from Trib Total Media in 2018. You can grab a cookie on the go, or order several dozen for your next event at this award-winning shop. They just released their full Easter menu complete with chocolate bunnies, carrot cake cups, and chick cookies. Be on the lookout for other springtime sweets, including their signature peach and berry pie, sold for $9.29 from May-August. 

Hours: Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., closed Sunday
