Park(ing) Day Pops Up in Downtown

Monday, September 13, 2021

On Friday, September 17, cities across the world will celebrate the 22nd year of Park(ING) Day, a global, public, participatory art project where people temporarily repurpose street parking spaces and convert them into pop-up parks and places for art, play, and activism.

This year, we’re teaming up with MovePGH, MoveForwardPGH, BikePGH, and Healthy Ride to repurpose multiple parking spaces along Penn Avenue between 10th and 11th Street. There, we’ll be showcasing a range of public realm demonstrations already in place, including the nearby Healthy Ride Stations, mobility hubs, outdoor dining, and bus-only lane.

📆 Friday, September 17 from 7:30 a.m. – noon

Our 2018 Park(ing) Day activation created a pop-up oasis along Liberty Avenue in partnership with the block’s small businesses and restaurants.

Join us between 7:30 a.m. through noon on Friday, September 17 to enjoy some complimentary pastries and coffee, share what mobility means to you, and learn about upcoming events, activities, and campaigns to get involved in!

Previously in 2018, the PDP converted a portion of Liberty Avenue’s parking spaces along the north side of the block and temporarily transitioned this space into a pedestrian-centric pop-up park (pictured above).
