Looking for a way to add some magic to your evenings in Downtown? The newly-opened Liberty Magic, a BYOB-speakeasy establishment, is one trick you should always keep up your sleeve.
The space dedicated to all-things-magic provides for an especially unique way to spend an evening or weekend. The theater itself is hard to miss: right past the neon glow of the Harris Theater you’ll see the window for Liberty Magic. In it, the first things you’ll notice are the life-sized figure recreating one of Harry Houdini’s famous escapes. Look a little closer and you’ll see giant playing cards – the street magician’s staple – along with artifacts and details that envelope you in the world of magic.
And all that’s before the show even starts. Liberty Magic’s current and inaugural performer is Eric Jones, recently featured nationally on America’s Got Talent, on stage through March 17. He’s an impressive talent, and even someone who considers themselves to be a skeptic (like me) will find themselves sitting at the edge of their seat in awe. It doesn’t hurt that he’s incredibly funny and personable, as well, involving the whole audience in the show.
I got to take part in the Skeleton Key VIP experience, and I can’t recommend it enough. With those tickets, you get a seat in one of the first two rows, plus a meet-and-greet with the magician in a room behind the stage. Tickets start at $40, and seating is general admission. Learn more.
