New at the Carnegie Science Center

There are several new and exciting things happening at the Carnegie Science Center! Check it out:

PPG Science Pavilion
The PPG Science Pavilion is a 33-million dollar expansion of the Carnegie Science Center. It will allow the museum to focus on STEM education and career awareness programming to inspire the next generation of creative thinkers. Some of the new programs that will be featured in this space include camps and classes with learning experiences in topics such as coding, cybersecurity, and river chemistry. Included in the expansion, The Scaife Exhibit Gallery will allow the Science Center to host major international touring exhibitions! The PPG Science Pavilion opened on June 16 and is now ready for visitors.

Art of the Brick Exhibit
The world’s largest exhibition of LEGO® art visits Pittsburgh until January 7, 2019, at the PPG Science Pavilion. Artist Nathan Sawaya’s art pieces are displayed made with a childhood favorite: the LEGO® brick. This exhibit features Sawaya’s own creations, and renditions of world-famous art like Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. In addition, there will be an innovative multimedia collection of LEGO brick-infused photography in collaboration with photographer Dean WestThe Art of the Brick is an exhibit for the whole family to enjoy.

21+ Block Party
On Friday, June 29, the Carnegie Science Center is hosting a 21+ block party from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. featuring activities in science, libations, music, and art!
Some of the activities include:

  • Sip on free samples from Wigle Whiskey
  • Try your hand at aerial silk moves with Pittsburgh Aerial Silks & Circus
  • Explore the new FedEx STEM Learning Labs with a series of “escape boxes”
  • Defy gravity on the Ropes Challenge or scale a 25-foot Rock Wall in Highmark SportsWorks®
  • Challenge your friends to a game of “GIANT Beer Pong” or try your balance at our “LEGO Fire Walk”
