Hardcore kid delinquent Otto (Emilio Estevez) learns the ropes of car repossession from Helping Hands Acceptance Corporation veteran Bud (Harry Dean Stanton) in Alex Cox’s cult comedy, which puts the duo on the trail of a 1964 Chevy Malibu driven by nuclear physicist Fox Harris, a quarry they learn the feds are also pursuing, for incredible, extraterrestrial reasons. Featuring a soundtrack filled with punk standards—including a title song by Iggy Pop—Repo Man sets its scene in a strip mall SoCal environment of mindless consumption, exactly the sort dead-end environment that punk was reacting against.
“Set in a scuzzy sci-fi nowhere… a world inhabited by dazed sociopaths—soreheads, deadbeats, and rusted-out punkers.”—Pauline Kael, The New Yorker
