The adage, “there are two sides to every story” reminds us that there is often more than one point-of-view. Join museum educators in applying this to history by examining the varying perspectives on the origins, development, and aftermath of the Seven Years’ War, as well as individual events of the American Revolution, that you can then apply to your classroom curriculum.
Explore the History Center’s Clash of Empires exhibition to examine artifacts and the unique perspectives on the conflict from each of the participants – the British, French, and Native Americans.
Then scaffold your learning by surveying over 25 original works of art and rare objects in our newly opened exhibit, Wars of Empire and Liberty: Featuring the Revolutionary Art of Don Troiani. A nationally renowned historical artist, Troiani’s paintings chronicle a diverse cast of characters swept up by the Revolution and focuses on the struggle for American independence.
Throughout the workshop, History Center educators will demonstrate and share teaching methods that incorporate primary and secondary source materials that represent a range of views on a historical issue.
Participants will leave with curriculum resources and strategies to support their classroom teaching from the Heinz History Center and the Smithsonian.
