Youth Writer's Camp

Feb 4, 2023 - Feb 4, 2023 | 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Virtual Event

The play, set in the post Great Migration years, shows how the main characters work hard to establish new and stable lives.  Students will use the play to deepen their understanding of things that may cause an individual to be able to, or unable to establish a sense of self- awareness. Students will reflect on their own purpose/values/ and self-identify to further deepen their understanding of self.

August Wilson believed that our own voices and communities were essential to our art. Together we will look at some of Wilsons influences as well as our own as we explore our unique writing voice.

The Youth Writers Camp curriculum will address current events, including topics related to social justice, while at the same time keeping August Wilson’s literary legacy as a core objective. Youth Writers Camp 2023 will be led by educators, Carla Knight and Dionna Westry.

Purchase all sessions or whichever you're able to attend! There will be a final performance on June 3rd for students to present their work.
