Eco-Justice for All! Wake Up and Challenge the Narrative: Workshop with Caitlyn Hunter

Aug 5, 2021 - Aug 5, 2021 | 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
City of Asylum
318 Sampsonia Way
Pittsburgh, PA 15212

In this workshop led by Caitlyn Hunter, participants will consider climate change as a state of being and displacement–that it isn’t just about weather. Ultimately, climate change impacts the spaces that we all inhabit differently based on our identities. But what are the nuances around place as it pertains to perspective and voice? Whose story is really being told, and what gets left out in between the stanzas? In this workshop, we will look at poems by Simon Ortiz and Nikki Finney to guide our thinking about our own relationships to land. Additionally, we will use these poems as guiding prompts to write in the wake and challenge master narratives that often leave little room to include marginalized identities.
