The Clemente Museum: The Story of the Great One

Jan 18, 2021 - Jan 18, 2021 | 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Virtual Event by Doors Open Pittsburgh

Join Doors Open Pittsburgh on MLK Day as they tell the story of Roberto Clemente. His impact beyond baseball is best depicted by the inscription on his cenotaph, “Son of Carolina, Exemplary Citizen, Athlete, Philanthropist, Teacher, Hero of the Americas and the World.”

Clemente, a black Latino, regarded his career in baseball as an opportunity to help disadvantaged Latin Americans and serve as a role model to Latin American children and baseball players.

Incensed by the injustice, inequality, and racism he witnessed in the United States, Clemente extended his humanitarian activism to the African American community.

Presented by DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh / Hosted by The Clemente Museum, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the life and legacy of Roberto Clemente.
