Out and About: City Works Eatery & Pour House

Monday, April 10, 2017

As a student who lives Downtown, I love being able to explore the 60+ new restaurants that have made such an impact on life in the heart of Pittsburgh. Last year, when I saw construction beginning on the new City Works: Eatery & Pour House in PPG (just off of Market Square), I was excited for yet another reason to grab dinner with friends after class.

As part of a special pre-opening party, a group of us from the PDP attended their trial run, and I can’t say enough how impressive the space is. You get a sense of the scale of it based on the large patio that looks out onto the Square, but the inside is tiered with one of the largest bars I’ve ever seen. Raised private dining areas and skylights also make it seem like the whole of the restaurant takes up the entirety of Pittsburgh’s glass castle, creating a unique atmosphere for Downtown’s dining scene.

Once seated, the service was quick, and the food was a very tasty upscale twist on American fare. And with over 90 beers and ciders on tap – including many from Pittsburgh – it was easy to not only find something that complemented our plates, but also try something new. My personal recommendation: the Duck Confit Nachos which seemed to accomplish the impossible task of having every nacho loaded with the correct amount of food, and nary a naked nacho seen on the plate.

Open for lunch and dinner everyday, plan your visit to City Works by visiting their website here.
