Tuesday, January 2, 2024

Tuesday, January 2, 2024 – History was made in Downtown Pittsburgh today as Sara Innamorato became the first woman to be sworn in as Allegheny County Executive. She is the fourth person to hold this office, succeeding Rich Fitzgerald, who served in the role for 12 years.

The ceremony took place at the landmark Byham Theater on 6th Street and featured performances by Lyndsey Smith, the Renaissance City Choir, and Treble NLS of 1hood media. Mayor Ed Gainey and Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council President Darrin Kelly provided remarks, with Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Chelsa Wagner delivering the oath of office.

Sara Innamorato was elected County Executive on November 7, 2023. A lifelong resident of Allegheny County, Innamorato previously served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives since 2018, where she was the Vice-Chair of the Allegheny County Delegation, a member of the House Finance, Labor and Industry, Transportation, and Urban Affairs committees, and on the boards of the Urban Redevelopment Authority and Allegheny County Housing Authority. In addition, she is a founding member of the Welcoming PA Caucus and the City-wide Task Force on Employee Ownership.

In her inauguration address, County Executive Innamorato described her administration’s top priorities, including affordable housing, equitable economic development, green energy jobs, workforce development, high-quality infrastructure and services, and safe and healthy communities.

PDP President and CEO Jeremy Waldrup has been named to the County Executive’s transition committee, joining other dedicated and diverse leaders from across the County who will help shape All In Allegheny: an inclusive community-driven effort that seeks to understand what people from every part of the region want from County government, and define an action plan to deliver on those priorities throughout the Innamorato Administration.
