Explore Black History Month this February in Downtown. Events this week:
- Tuesday, February 7: “Facing Ali” Documentary Screening at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Downtown Branch at 12:15 p.m.; free showing.
- Thursday, February 9: “A Salute to First Responders” Reception from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the City County Building. “A Salute to First Responders” showcases the accomplishments of outstanding African-American police, fire, and EMS through photographs and other memorabilia. Ceremony includes remarks by Mayor William Peduto as well as refreshments and musical entertainment.
- Thursday, February 9 – Saturday, February 18: “JH: Mechanics of a Legend” at the August Wilson Center. This is the legend of John Henry, the only African American tall-tale character, and the story rooted in the dawn of a new nation and the American machine age.
- Saturday, February 11: Soul Line Dancing class at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Downtown Branch from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. Join them for a fun class and learn several traditional and contemporary dances!
