Biking in the ‘Burgh: Celebrate National Bike Month Downtown

May is National Bike Month! This month is an opportunity to showcase the many benefits of cycling and the community around it. Pittsburgh has a wonderful biking community that provides resources, events, and connections between cyclists. Check out all of these exciting ways to celebrate downtown! 🚲

Pittsburgh Bike to Work Day

📅 Thursday, May 9

📍All Over ‘tahn!

BikePGH is celebrating cycling commuters on May 9th! Bikers can stop by the Commuter Café in Market Square from 7 – 10 am for free breakfast and coffee. Swing by The Terminal in the Strip District after work for snacks and discounted happy hour drinks. Get a full list of Cafés and event details here.

Open Streets Downtown

📅 Saturday, May 11

📍Downtown & South Side

The OpenStreetsPGH event series is kicking off during Bike Month! This free to attend event shuts down streets to allow the community to reimagine spaces otherwise used by motor vehicles. This month, explore activity hubs, small businesses and more from Market Square to the East Carson Business District from 10 am – 2 pm! Learn more.

Pittsburgh Ride of Silence

📅 Wednesday, May 15

📍Ride Begins at Second Avenue Parking Plaza

This international event brings together community members who have been affected by traffic violence. Join Western PA Bicycle Club for a silent procession to honor bicyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. The route will travel through Downtown past the ghost bike memorial for James Mills, which you can learn more about here.

Public Art Bike Racks

Have you seen the funky metal sculptures scattered around the Cultural District? They’re more than what meets the eye! These functional works of art double as bike racks, creating an incredible combination of form and function. Check out the self-guided walking tour to see all 25!
