Downtown Pittsburgh: Set for Prime Time
The PDP welcomed members of Mayor O’Connor’s new Economic Development Leadership: Steve Wray, Director of Economic Development, and Mary McKinney Flaherty, Deputy Director of Economic Development, to share more about the City of Pittsburgh’s commitment to the recruitment and retention of businesses in Downtown Pittsburgh.
In anticipation of the 2026 NFL Draft, we discussed our goals to connect with the influx of visitors, make a lasting impression, and inspire return visits. We also shared progress on transformational projects including Market Square Modernization & Outdoor Dining, Point State Park, Arts Landing and the upcoming Smithfield Street reconstruction.
Additionally, we celebrated 24 new business openings in 2025 (9 with PDP incentive support),new pedestrian wayfinding, lighting, storefront activations and sidewalk repairs.

To measure activity Downtown, the PDP tracks daily visitors, parking garage utilization, bus ridership, residential, and office building occupancy, and other metrics that help keep local stakeholders, leaders, and citizens informed on the state of Downtown Pittsburgh. The data in this Dashboard is collected and updated on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
The Interactive Downtown Investment Map reflects real estate development projects in the Golden Triangle, Strip District, North Shore, Lower Hill, Uptown, and South Shore that have been recently completed, are under construction or are being planned in Greater Downtown. The primary source for this information is provided by developers or credible news sources and is updated on a regular basis.
