The 2019 Great Race Returns To Downtown

Thursday, September 19, 2019

Lace-up your running shoes, because the 42nd running of The Great Race is here! Sunday, September 29, hundreds of racers will be hitting the streets of Pittsburgh for the 2019 Great Race, along with the Dollar Bank Junior Great Race on Saturday, September 28.

The race started back in 1977, when former Pittsburgh Mayor Richard S. Caliguiri established the event as a “community fun run,” and has been a Pittsburgh tradition ever since. Around 250,000 people have participated, making it the largest 10K race in Pennsylvania. The Great Race has since expanded to include the 5K run/walk, a running clinic, the Junior Great Race, the Great Race Expo, and more.

Every year, the Great Race donates $1 from every Great Race and Junior Great Race registration to the Richard S. Caliguiri Amyloidosis Fund. The fund is held by the Pittsburgh Foundation, where the proceeds go to supporting medical research.

The 10K course (6.2 miles) will begin in Frick Park at Beechwood Boulevard, and the 5K (3.1 miles) will start at Fifth Avenue and Atwood Street in Oakland before ending in Downtown.
