Cap Connector Project Construction Updates

Monday, August 26, 2019

With public meetings for the Cap Urban Connector Project (Cap Project) dating back to 2016, the Sports & Exhibition Authority’s (SEA) project launched construction this past July and is intended to provide a vital, physical connection point between the Hill District and Central Business District and improve access for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transportation users. Once the project is completed in November 2021, this will result in a new 3-acre public open space with pedestrian pathways and bike routes, adjacent intersection improvements, recreation, and educational areas, performance spaces, rain gardens for stormwater management, public art, and additional public amenities.

Construction notice for the week of August 26: between August 26-29 (weather permitting), crews will be working overnight, between 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., that will cause multiple closures and detours for motorists. These closures and detours will impact both Downtown commuters during morning rush hour and for event attendees heading to PPG Paints arena or other surrounding venues. For those who commute to work through Uptown via Fifth Avenue, consider alternate routes for reaching your workplace or final destination.
