REMINDER: Eastbound I-376 Parkway East Overnight Closures Begin Monday Night

PennDOT District 11 is reminding motorists overnight closures of eastbound (outbound) I-376 (Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin tonight, Monday night, May 5 weather permitting.

Overnight closures of the outbound Parkway East will occur weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. at the Birmingham Bridge through late May.  Additionally, an overnight closure will occur from Friday night, May 9 at 9 p.m. through noon on Saturday, May 10.

Crews will conduct bridge jacking, bearing replacement, and pin and hanger replacement work on the Oakland off-ramp over I-376. All outbound traffic will be detoured.

New Work Zone to be Added to University Line Construction in Uptown Next Week

Starting Monday, May 5, Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s contractor will begin setting up a new work zone along Fifth Avenue between Diamond and Pride streets, on the side of the street closest to PPG Paints Arena. This work marks the start of construction for two new PRTX stations.

Station Locations:

  • Uptown West Station – at Fifth Avenue and Washington Place, next to PPG Paints Arena
  • Pride Street Station – at Fifth Avenue and Pride Street

Crews will begin excavation and install a new sidewalk with curbs and accessible ramps. Electrical crews will also run conduit for future station power and install foundations for new traffic signals and pedestrian poles.

Traffic Changes:

  • Traffic on Fifth Avenue will shift away from the construction zone, toward the side opposite PPG Paints Arena.
  • The existing parking lane on that side of the street will be converted into a permanent travel lane in preparation for the future bus lane.

The construction zone will remain in place 24/7 through the fall.

Once complete, both stations will feature 30-foot bus shelters with upgraded transit amenities.


Eastbound I-376 Parkway East Overnight Lane Closure Tonight in Allegheny County

PennDOT District 11 is announcing an overnight lane closure on eastbound I-376 (Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh, and Edgewood, Swissvale, Wilkinsburg, and Churchill boroughs, Allegheny County will occur tonight, Friday night, May 2 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur on eastbound (outbound) I-376 in various locations between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Greensburg Pike overpass from 9 p.m. Friday night to 5 a.m. Saturday morning. Crews will conduct patching work.


I-579 Veterans Bridge Inspection Next Week in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11 is announcing inspection activities on the I-579 Veterans Bridge over the Allegheny River in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Monday through Thursday, May 5-8 weather permitting.

Inspection activities will occur on the I-579 Veterans Bridge according to the following schedule:

  • Monday and Tuesday, May 5-6 – Southbound single-lane restriction from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day
  • Wednesday and Thursday, May 7-8 – Northbound single-lane restriction from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day

Crews from the Azalea Group and the Pittsburgh Rigging Company will conduct the routine inspection work.

PennDOT District 11 is announcing an overnight lane and shoulder restriction on eastbound (outbound) I-376 (Parkway East) in Edgewood Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur tonight, Thursday, May 1 weather permitting.

An eastbound (outbound) right-hand lane and shoulder closure will occur from 9 p.m. Thursday night through 5 a.m. Friday morning between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange. Crews will conduct crane mobilization work for retaining wall construction as part of the Commercial Street Bridge project.


Westbound I-376 Parkway East Paving this Weekend in Churchill

PennDOT District 11 is announcing paving operations on westbound I-376 (Parkway East) in Churchill Borough, Allegheny County will occur Friday night through Sunday morning, May 2-4 weather permitting.

Westbound (inbound) I-376 will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic from 9 p.m. Friday night continuously through 1 a.m. Sunday morning between the Penn Hills (Exit 81) and the Churchill (Exit 79B) interchanges to allow crews to conduct milling, paving and line striping operations.

Lane restrictions will be removed once the work is completed which may occur before 1 a.m. Sunday morning.


I-376 Parkway East Lane Closure Monday in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11 is announcing a lane restriction on westbound (inbound) I-376 (Parkway East) in Allegheny County will occur Monday, April 28 weather permitting.

A single-lane restriction will occur on I-376 in the westbound direction between the Smithfield Street Bridge overpass and the Fort Pitt Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday as crews conduct survey work.


I-376 Parkway East Overnight Lane Closures Begin Monday in Allegheny County

PennDOT District 11 is announcing overnight lane closures on I-376 (Parkway East) in Allegheny County will begin Monday night, April 28 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur on I-376 in various locations in both directions between the Churchill (Exit 79B) interchange and the Birmingham Bridge nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through early July. Crews will conduct concrete and asphalt repairs, median barrier replacement and improvements, and bridge deck work.

Work will not begin in the outbound (eastbound) direction until 2 hours after the end of a Pirate game or major event in the City of Pittsburgh.

The restrictions will be coordinated with other work occurring in various locations throughout the Parkway East corridor.


Route 30 Ardmore Boulevard Drilling Tuesday, Wednesday in Wilkinsburg

PennDOT District 11 is announcing lane restriction on Route 30 (Ardmore Boulevard) in Wilkinsburg Borough, Allegheny County will occur Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22-23 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur in both directions of Route 30 between Morrow Road and I-376 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day according to the following schedule:

  • Tuesday, April 22 – Westbound
  • Wednesday, April 23 – Eastbound

Southbound I-579 Ramp to Southbound Boulevard of the Allies Overnight

PennDOT District 11 is announcing overnight closures of the southbound I-579 ramp to southbound Boulevard of the Allies (Route 885) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Monday through Thursday nights, April 21-24 weather permitting.

Overnight closures of the ramp carrying traffic from southbound I-579 to southbound (outbound) Boulevard of the Allies (Route 885) will occur from 9 p.m.to 5 a.m. each night. Crews will conduct deck patching and sealing work on the ramp. Traffic will be detoured.

Old William Penn Highway Closure Next Week in Monroeville

PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of Old William Penn Highway in the Municipality of Monroeville, Allegheny County will occur Tuesday through Friday, April 22-25 weather permitting.

Old William Penn Highway will close to traffic between Evergreen Drive and Duff Road from 7 a.m. Tuesday, April 22 continuously through 6 p.m. Friday, April 25 to allow crews to conduct bridge superstructure erection work on the I-376 (Parkway East) structure over the roadway. Traffic on Old William Penn Highway will be detoured.

Please slow down and use caution on the detour route. Local roadways are being used for the detour.

Intermittent closures of varying duration will occur throughout the summer on Old William Highway to accommodate bridge demolition, beam erection, deck placement, and other bridge replacement activities. A total of 28 days of closures are permitted. Details will be provided in advance of the closures.


Eastbound I-376 Parkway East Shoulder Restriction Thursday

PennDOT District 11 is announcing a shoulder restriction on eastbound (outbound) I-376 (Parkway East) in Edgewood Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Thursday, April 17 weather permitting.

A shoulder restriction will occur on eastbound I-376 between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. Crews will conduct preparatory work for wall construction.

The Commercial Street Bridge replacement project will utilize Accelerated Bridge Construction Techniques to laterally slide the new bridge onto the existing alignment of I-376 (Parkway East), which would be one of the largest lateral slide projects performed in Pennsylvania. The $95 million project located between the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange and Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Swissvale Borough and the City of Pittsburgh began in June of 2024 with the reconstruction of the westbound I-376 off-ramp to Forest Hills/Wilkinsburg (Exit 78B). Additional work last season included the temporary relocation of Commercial Street and the Nine Mile Run Trail below the bridge, the relocation of sanitary sewer lines, and portions of phased ITS work. Work in 2025 includes the installation of new sign structures, temporary and permanent piers, abutments, and piles for temporary and permanent foundations, steel erection, and the continuation of phased ITS work. In 2025, nine overnight full closures and detours of eastbound I-376, a full weekend closure and detour of I-376 in each direction, and 35 extended weeknight single-lane restrictions on eastbound I-376 will occur.  In 2026, motorists can expect a 25-day full closure and detour of I-376. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in the summer of 2027.

Inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel Lane Restriction

PennDOT District 11is announcing a lane restriction in the inbound (westbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel (I-376 Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Monday and Tuesday nights, April 14-15 weather permitting.

A single-lane restriction will occur in the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. PennDOT crews will conduct flushing operations.


Route 885 Boulevard of the Allies Overnight Lane Closures Resume

PennDOT District 11 is announcing overnight lane closures on the Boulevard of the Allies (Route 885) and associated ramps in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will resume Tuesday night, April 8 weather permitting.

Overnight lane closures of the Boulevard of the Allies in the southbound (outbound) direction at the Birmingham Bridge and the ramp to Forbes Avenue from southbound Boulevard of the Allies will occur weeknights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. as needed through early May. Crews will conduct drainage upgrades and downspout installation work.

Crews will coordinate work with events scheduled at PPG Paints Arena.


Route 130 Brown Avenue Traffic Restriction Underway in Allegheny County

PennDOT District 11 is announcing a single-lane restriction is underway on Brown Avenue (Route 130) in Turtle Creek Borough and Wilkins Township, Allegheny County.

Due to a landslide, Brown Avenue has been restricted to a single lane of traffic between Washington Street in Wilkins Township and Mortimer Avenue in Turtle Creek Borough. Temporary traffic signals have been implemented to control traffic and barrier has been installed.

Route 130 Allegheny River Boulevard Maintenance Activities

PennDOT District 11 is announcing maintenance work is underway on Allegheny River Boulevard (Route 130) in the Municipality of Penn Hills and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.

Single-lane alternating traffic will occur on Allegheny River Boulevard between Washington Boulevard (Route 8) and Sandy Creek Road (Route 130) weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through the end of April. PennDOT crews will conduct maintenance work including side dozing, shoulder cleanup, drainage ditching, and other miscellaneous work in advance of seal coating operations that will occur later this spring.


I-376 Parkway East Crossover Begins this Weekend in Monroeville

PennDOT District 11 is announcing a traffic crossover on I-376 (Parkway East) in the Municipality of Monroeville, Allegheny County will begin Saturday, March 22 weather permitting.

Eastbound (outbound) traffic on I-376 is expected to be crossed over into the westbound (inbound) lanes on Saturday to allow crews to begin the demolition and replacement of the bridge that carries the Parkway East over Old William Penn Highway. Preparatory work will begin at 9 p.m. Friday night beginning with eastbound I-376 being reduced to a single-lane of traffic between the Penn Hills (Exit 81) and the Monroeville/Route 48 (Exit 84A) interchanges.  Crews will conduct barrier installation and line striping operations in advance of the crossover.

Once the prep work is complete, two lanes of eastbound I-376 will be crossed over into the westbound lanes. The new configuration will include two 11-foot lanes of traffic in both directions maintained in the westbound lanes. The crossover is anticipated to remain in place through mid-July. Once completed, westbound I-376 will be crossed over into the eastbound lanes to allow work on the westbound structure.


Route 2058 Leechburg Road Slide Repair Work Begins Monday in Penn Hills

PennDOT District 11 is announcing slide remediation work on Leechburg Road (Route 2058) in the Municipality of Penn Hills, Allegheny County will begin Monday, March 17 weather permitting.

Slide repair work requiring the closure of a portion of Leechburg Road between Courtney Avenue and Sutton Drive will begin at approximately 9 a.m. Monday morning. An around-the-clock closure will remain in place through mid-April as crews conduct slide repair work, drainage improvements, and shoulder and roadway reconstruction. Traffic will be detoured.

Route 791 Rodi Road Improvements Underway in Churchill

PennDOT District 11 is announcing improvement work is underway on Rodi Road (Route 791) in Churchill Borough, Allegheny County.

Single-lane and shoulder restrictions will occur on Rodi Road between Business 22 and Maple Lane weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through mid-November.  Crews will conduct shoulder reconstruction, concrete curb and median replacement, and roadway rehabilitation work.
