The history housed in the distinctive buildings bordering Pittsburgh’s 25-foot-wide Fourth Avenue, between Smithfield and Stanwix streets, is amazing. As you explore the National Register Historic District, you’ll hear about Pittsburgh’s “Wall Street,” and see buildings designed by more than a dozen distinguished Pittsburgh architects, in styles ranging from Greek Revival to Post Modern, constructed between 1836 and 1984. You’ll see former banking buildings that have been renovated for new uses and Point Park University’s new Pittsburgh Playhouse under construction.
