Join the Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania for a conversation with experts on how the healthcare technology industry connects our region with Japan and moves us toward the future at the Rivers Club on March 11 from 7:30 to 9:00 AM.

This event focuses on an industry that is central to the economies of both Pittsburgh and Japan – healthcare technology. After an overview of the economic impacts of the industry, experts from research, products, and care will speak about contributions and opportunities in their sectors.

Speakers

Kentaro Onishi, DO, Associate Faculty, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

Since serving on the International Olympic Committee’s medical team for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Dr. Kentaro Onishi, a UPMC sports medicine physician and Tokyo native, has made a name for himself for his fresh ideas and willingness to take an unorthodox approach to orthopaedic medicine. Dr. Onishi will be sharing his expertise in the fields of sports medicine and ultrasound technology, and his projected involvement in the IOC medical team for the 2020 summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Mark W. Meyer, MD, Division Chief, Family and Community Medicine, Director, Global Health Track, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

Dr. Mark Meyer has been interested in global health and health care to vulnerable populations his entire career as a physician. Prior to joining the faculty in 2011, he worked at nearby East Liberty Family Health Care Center, a faith-based federally qualified health center (FQHC). While still working there, Dr. Meyer helped develop the Global Health Track (GHT) with Dr. Randy Kolb. He now leads the Family Medicine partnership with Aso Iizuka Hospital in Fukuoka.

Moderator – Christian Manders

Christian Manders is the Chief Operating Officer of Promethean LifeSciences, Inc. Mr. Manders grew up in Hershey, PA and attended Yale University. At Promethean, Mr. Manders is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the company. He serves on the Board of Life Sciences Pennsylvania (www.lifesciencespa.org), the second biggest state-wide industry group for the life sciences in the United States, founded and runs the Pittsburgh Biomedical Breakfasts (www.biobreakfast.com), and is active in the life sciences community in Pittsburgh.
