Join the Pittsburgh Festival Opera in a series of workshops featuring a newly-composed jazz opera by Dwayne Fulton, A Gathering of Sons! The opera tells the story of a young Black boy, his parents, a white police officer, and a collection of spirits that watch over the world, all while exploring themes of justice and inequity in society today. An esteemed panel will join the workshops to discuss important topics and questions present in today’s society, such as How do we heal? How do we protect our children? How do we survive this state, this country, this world? What comes next?
The workshop will be moderated by the production stage director, Mark Southers, and feature soprano Anqwenique Wingfield and bass-baritone Miles Wilson-Toliver. Panelists include Christiane Leach, Mitch Swain, and Brandi Fisher.
The workshops are free and open to the public and will take place at the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council (810 Penn Ave., 6th Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15222) on Wednesday May 10, 2017! Doors open at 6:30 for the 7 PM workshop where segments of the opera will be performed, followed by a talkback with the production staff and panelists.
