Saturday Sessions: Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique

May 16, 2026 - May 16, 2026 | 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Heinz Hall
600 Penn Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15222

When Tchaikovsky conducted his Sixth Symphony, nine days before his death, he hinted at a deeper meaning behind the music, then chose not to explain it.

In this final Saturday Sessions of the season, you are invited to experience that mystery for yourself.

Hosted by Associate Conductor Jacob Joyce and conducted by Edward Gardner, this guided performance brings you inside Tchaikovsky's final symphony. From its powerful opening to moments of elegance, unease, and something far more unexpected, the music continually shifts. Just when it feels like you understand where it is going, it changes.

With insights shared live from the stage, a relaxed atmosphere, and the freedom to experience the music your own way, Saturday Sessions invites you to listen closely and decide for yourself what this extraordinary work is really saying.
