Pittsburgh’s Hidden History: Behind the Curtain

Mar 8, 2026 - Mar 8, 2026 | 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Heinz History Center
1212 Smallman Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Join the museum professionals who worked on Pittsburgh’s Hidden History for a lively panel exploring the wacky, weird, and wonderful stories that shaped the exhibition.

From spooky artifacts and tiny treasures to extraordinary pieces spanning centuries of Pittsburgh history, the exhibit brings together a remarkable mix of stories and objects, including many that have never been on view.

But how were these objects chosen? What artifacts were considered but didn’t make the final cut? What design decisions were considered to help shape the visitor experience?

Hear directly from the people who developed the exhibit as they share insider stories, unexpected discoveries, and the creative process behind the artifacts, archival materials, and themes explored.

The program will be moderated by Anne Madarasz, chief historian and director of the Sports Museum, and include the following panelists:

• Samantha Baine, director of exhibit design

• Courtney Keel Becraft, director of collections

• Sierra Green, senior outreach archivist

• Emily Ruby, senior curator

Whether you’ve already visited Pittsburgh’s Hidden History or plan to see it before it closes, this program offers a deeper look at the research, interpretation, and design that reveal Pittsburgh’s past in surprising ways.

Curious? Register now to step behind the curtain on Sunday, March 8.
