AWAACC Youth Writers Camp 2026

Mar 14, 2026 - Mar 14, 2026 | 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
August Wilson African American Cultural Center
980 Liberty Ave
Pittsburgh, PA 15222

This 5-session camp provides an opportunity to explore various forms of writing, from poetry and plays to short stories and songwriting, while connecting with contemporary issues like social justice and the literary legacy of August Wilson. Through discussions, reading, writing, and sharing, students will express themselves freely in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Led by accomplished teaching artists Carla Knight and Dionna Spencer, the hybrid camp with virtual and in-person sessions, promises to offer a dynamic and enriching experience for young writers to hone their craft and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

The camp culminates in an exciting in-person performance and reception, where students will have the opportunity to showcase their work and celebrate their creative achievements.

Educators: Carla Knight and Dionna Spencer

Registration is recommended for all sessions of camp, although students may sign up for individual sessions. Registration may be concluded early at the discretion of camp staff. The individual sessions are $30.00 each. The full camp bundle package is $125.00.
