Peju Alatise: I Will Belong to Only Me anchors the experience as the first U.S. solo survey of the acclaimed Nigerian artist, bringing together two decades of work across sculpture, installation, film, and text that center African girlhood, imagination, and self-definition. Also on view is Lavett Ballard: a Rose is a Rose is a Rose, a poetic collection of mixed-media assemblages exploring Black femininity, materiality, and memory through reclaimed materials and layered historical imagery. Completing the evening is Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh, a regional, juried exhibition that brings together visual art, writing, performance, video, and interdisciplinary practices to examine whose stories are preserved, shared, and elevated, and how storytelling can serve as a catalyst for justice, memory, and collective action.
Whether you are continuing your gallery crawl or making AWAACC your first stop, this evening offers an opportunity to engage with art that invites reflection, dialogue, and new ways of seeing.
