Saturday Sessions: Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra

Jan 24, 2026 - Jan 24, 2026 | 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Heinz Hall
600 Penn Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Bold. Inventive. Life-Affirming.

Written at the very end of the composer's life, Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra is a triumphant display of resilience, imagination, and sheer orchestral brilliance. Instead of spotlighting a single soloist, Bartók turns the entire orchestra into the star—giving each section moments to shine.

At this Saturday Sessions, you’ll discover:

  • What it means to write a concerto for the whole orchestra
  • The secret palindrome structure of Bartók's work
  • A performance by Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School that visualizes the music

Associate Conductor Jacob Joyce guides you through each moment. First-time symphony-goers can follow the story, and longtime fans can hear fresh details they may have missed. With a relaxed atmosphere, fun drinks you can bring into the hall, and a chance to connect more deeply with each piece, Saturday Sessions is the perfect night out!
