Join Marie, her Nutcracker Prince, and hundreds of colorful characters on an unforgettable journey through the Land of Enchantment. Families and friends can revel in dazzling scenery, ornate costumes, sparkling snowflakes, and Tchaikovsky’s iconic score.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s sensory-friendly performances are relaxed, judgment-free showings designed to welcome all audience members. “Relaxed” refers to an environment where attendees may come as they are—an ideal setting for families with young children or anyone who may benefit from additional support. Extra sound or movement in the audience is anticipated and accepted, and PBT celebrates the many ways individuals can enjoy a live performance.
These sensory-friendly shows incorporate adjusted production elements to better support audience members with sensory sensitivities, autism, anxiety, movement challenges, disabilities, and other needs. Accommodations include reduced sound levels, limited special effects, and house lighting maintained at approximately 20%. Quiet areas and lobby activities are also available before and during the performance, with additional staff present to help foster a safe and welcoming experience.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre recognizes that traditional theater settings can pose barriers for many in the community, and these performances represent an ongoing commitment to making ballet more accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for all.
