Maltby and Shire’s Closer Than Ever is a riveting song cycle exploring the everyday struggles of love and life in the modern world. The songs of Richard Maltby, Jr., and David Shire (Big; Starting Here, Starting Now; Baby) are brimming with brilliance for which these theatre giants are known. Each song is its own story with its own characters to complete that story—ranging on topics from unrequited love… to aging… to a personal history of three college friends growing apart.
