In this workshop led by S. Brook Corfman, we will think about the narrative power of the idea that we live “under” climate change. How does this framing of language—this preposition—suggest both an immense vastness of ecological phenomena, at a scale beyond our comprehension, while simultaneously suggesting that there might be a way to quickly “get out from under” the problem? What truth is there in either of these ideas? With time spent reading, generating, and shaping poems, participants will leave with drafts seeking their own connections and negotiating their own paths through the different scales of climate violence.
