Come celebrate recent temporary art installations by Janel Youngduring an artist talk and walk on July 13, 2021. This event is free and open to the public. Limited to 40 guests.
We will start at 5:30pm at the Granite Building, 313 Sixth Avenue to view her mural Six Feet apART and New Space Spheres, projects she created in 2020 to encourage safe health practices. Janel will speak about the creation of her mural as well as the process of working with Ebtehal Badawi, Juliandra Jones, Higu Rose, and Kamara Townes on the spheres. This project was commissioned by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.
At 5:50, we will take a short walk up the street to Respect the Space, Janel's commission for the Port Authority commissioned through Smart Growth America's COVID-response art initiative. She created bus stop street mural at their busiest Downtown location.
At 6, we will walk to Allegheny Overlook, a new temporary plaza on the banks of the Allegheny River between Sixth and Stanwix Streets. Janel will present one of her newest projects Pathway to Joy - the large scale, vibrant asphalt mural she created in 2021 defining this vibrant public space. The mural was created in partnership with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and opened at the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival.
Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership will share a drink ticket with all attendees so they can enjoy the evening jazz programming at the AO following Janel's talk.
