We are pleased to announce the Cave Canem 25th Anniversary Reunion! Each June since 2010, City of Asylum has been home to Cave Canem’s annual reading. Tonight audiences can experience a video collage of past readings highlighting and honoring the rich diversity of poets who have taught at the retreat, celebrating the treasured alliance of both organizations from the first five years of their partnership (2010-2014). This year we continue the tradition with performance highlights from acclaimed poets Colleen McElroy, Amiri Baraka, Nikki Giovanni, Angela Jackson, Toi Derricotte, and Tim Seibles. This virtual gathering launches a yearlong celebration of Cave Canem’s rich history and is modeled after the Cave Canem Retreat, their long-standing flagship program.
Cave Canem was founded by Toi Derricotte and Cornelius Eady in 1996 to remedy the under-representation and isolation of African American poets in the literary landscape, Cave Canem Foundation is a home for the many voices of African American poetry and is committed to cultivating the artistic and professional growth of African American poets.
