The Steel City World Cup is a grand celebration of Pittsburgh’s vibrant and growing global community — a story that is shared through cultural expression and soccer: The Beautiful Game.
In 2019, the soccer tournament will host 32 teams representing countries from around the world in a round robin group stage on Saturday, June 22nd. The top 16 teams from the group stage will qualify for the single elimination stage the following day, June 23rd, which will include the Rounds of 16, 8, and 4. In total, over 60 games will be played across the first two days to narrow the field down to two final teams.
The tournament will culminate on the evening of June 29th under the lights at Highmark Stadium when the two final teams will play the championship match immediately following the Riverhounds vs. Birmingham Legion FC game. The finals match will be the feature event among many at the Riverhounds’ “Celebration of Cultures” night.
