“The Cooking Gene” with Michael Twitty

Aug 30, 2018 - Aug 30, 2018 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Heinz History Center
1212 Smallman St.
Pittsburgh, PA

Recently honored with the 2018 James Beard Award for Book of the Year, Twitty’s “The Cooking Gene” explores how Southern food is integral to the American culinary tradition, yet the question of who “owns” it is one of the most provocative touch points in our country’s ongoing struggle around race.

Join the History Center for a special evening with this groundbreaking historian as he explores his ancestral culinary history and a frank conversation about race and food history.

Admission to this program is free and open to the public but does not include admission to the full History Center.

Copies of “The Cooking Gene” will be available for sale at this program, and Michael Twitty will sign copies following his presentation.
