“I want to write a work that will give permanent fame to my name in the world,” declared Haydn as he set out to pen his most celebrated oratorio, The Creation. Based on the Biblical story, with this imaginative depiction, Haydn gives musical life to the six most famous days in all of history. Haydn’s love of nature is everywhere apparent and his deep religious faith illuminates, as well. It is no wonder that The Creation was Haydn’s most beloved composition during his lifetime and Music Director Manfred Honeck, the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra offer a unique twist on this shining masterpiece with an original theatrical presentation led by acclaimed Stage Director, Sam Helfrich.
