Westbound Route 2048 William Penn Highway Hall Station Bridge Lane Restriction

PennDOT District 11 is announcing a lane restriction on the Route 2048 (William Penn Highway/Business 22) Hall Station Bridge in in Wilkins Township and the Municipality of Monroeville, Allegheny County will begin Monday, September 29 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur daily in the westbound direction on the Hall Station Bridge, which carries William Penn Highway over Thompson Run Road from 7:00 AM to 5 PM through late December. Crews will conduct trough seals on the saw tooth expansion dams on the bridge.

Work on this $23.84 million William Penn Highway (Business Route 22) preservation and rehabilitation project began in March 2023 in Wilkins Township, Churchill Borough, and the Municipality of Monroeville between Huntingdon Drive and Mosside Boulevard and is expected to conclude in early 2026.


I-376 Parkway East Bridge Inspection Activities Sunday Morning in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11 is announcing bridge inspection activities on I-376 (Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Sunday morning, September 28 weather permitting.

Bridge inspection activities requiring a single-lane restriction will occur in each direction on the I-376 Frazier Street Bridge between the Oakland on-ramp and Squirrel Hill/Homestead (Exit 74) interchange. Restrictions will occur from 6:00 AM to noon Sunday.


I-376 Parkway East Bridge Beam Deliveries Wednesday and Thursday in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists bridge beam deliveries on I-376 (Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Wednesday and Thursday, September 24-25 weather permitting.

The next bridge beam deliveries are expected to arrive onsite at the I-376 Commercial Street Bridge replacement project between approximately 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM Wednesday and Thursday. For deliveries to occur, large trucks will travel on I-79, eastbound (inbound) I-376 (Parkway West), and eastbound (outbound) I-376 (Parkway East) and pull in the plaza outside the suburban side of Squirrel Hill Tunnel. Westbound I-376 will have multiple intermittent traffic stoppages of approximately 15 minutes or less near the entrance of the Squirrel Hill tunnel to allow the trucks to cross the lanes into the work area. The arrival time is contingent depending on the travel distance, route traffic, and unforeseen obstacles. Motorists should expect delays.

Additional beam deliveries will occur at later dates. Details will be provided prior to the deliveries.


Route 2085 Birmingham Bridge Restrictions Next Week in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11 is announcing lane restrictions on the Birmingham Bridge which carries Route 2085 over the Monongahela River in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will occur Monday through Thursday, September 22-25 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur in both directions on the southern end of the Birmingham Bridge from 6:00 AM Monday continuously through 6:00 PM Thursday as crews conduct median barrier replacement work.


New Work Sites Added to University Line Construction in Uptown

Pittsburgh Regional Transit will begin the next phase of construction on the University Line bus rapid transit project with work expanding along Fifth and Forbes avenues in Uptown the week of September 22. 

On Monday, September 22, crews will begin work on Forbes Avenue between Jumonville and Brady streets.  

The following day, on Tuesday September 23, construction will also begin on Fifth Avenue between Pride and Jumonville streets. These areas will ultimately include four new PRTX stations.  

Crews will be on site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, through the end of December 2025. 

Pedestrian and Vehicular Access 

Contractors will maintain two travel lanes during evening rush hours (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.). 

Street parking will remain available on the north side of Forbes Avenue (opposite the work zone) between Jumonville Street and Brady Street, except during evening rush hours. 

Parking will be suspended on both sides of Fifth Avenue between Pride and Brady streets.  

Side streets and intersections will remain open. 

Pedestrian access will be maintained, with temporary crosswalks and ADA-accessible ramps. 

Bus Service Adjustments:

On Forbes Avenues, bus routes 61A, 61B, and 61C will not serve stops at: 

  • Forbes at Jumonville 
  • Forbes at Seneca 
  • Forbes at Moultrie 

Temporary stops will be located at: 

  • Jumonville at Watson 
  • Fifth Avenue bus lane at Seneca 
  • Fifth Avenue bus lane at Moultrie 

On Fifth Avenue, bus routes 61A, 61B, 61C, and 71B will continue to serve existing bus stops. 

While contractors will make every effort to maintain the existing stops, there may be occasions when stops are not accessible due to construction activities.  

This phase of construction includes:  

  • Excavation and utility relocation (water and sewer)  
  • Installation of new and wider sidewalks, curbs, and ADA-accessible ramps to improve safety and accessibility 
  • Underground conduit for station power, traffic signals, and pedestrian safety systems  

In future phases, PRT will install:  

  • New PRTX stations with upgraded passenger amenities  
  • Transit-only lanes 
  • Roadway resurfacing, landscaping, and green infrastructure 

New PRTX stations in Uptown: 

Outbound on Forbes Avenue: 

  • SoHo Station (Birmingham Bridge) 
  • Jumonville Station (at Jumonville Street) 
  • Uptown Central (at Miltenberger Street) 

Inbound on Fifth Avenue: 

  • Uptown Central (at Miltenberger Street) 
  • Jumonville Station (at Jumonville Street) 
  • SoHo Station (at Kirkpatrick Street) 

When complete, the University Line will feature 24 modern stations with seating, lighting, real-time arrival screens, fare vending machines, security cameras, and emergency phones. The service will operate in dedicated bus lanes inbound on Fifth Avenue and outbound on Sixth and Forbes avenues. 


Outbound I-376 Parkway East Lane Restriction Saturday Morning in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11 is announcing an eastbound (outbound) lane restriction on I-376 (Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will occur Saturday morning, September 20 weather permitting.

A single-lane restriction will occur on the outbound Parkway East under the Birmingham Bridge from 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday.  Crews from Golden Triangle Construction will conduct overhang bracket removal work.  


Route 885 Boulevard of the Allies Bridge Inspection this Weekend in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11 is announcing inspection activities on the Boulevard of the Allies (Route 885) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will occur Saturday and Sunday, September 20-21 weather permitting.

A single-lane restriction will occur in the outbound (southbound) direction of the Boulevard of the Allies near the Birmingham Bridge from 6:00 AM to noon each day. Crews from the Larson Design Group will conduct the inspection work.

Overnight I-376 Parkway East Ramp Closure Tuesday in Penn Hills

PennDOT District 11 is announcing an overnight I-376 (Parkway East) ramp closure in the Municipality of Penn Hills, Allegheny County, will occur Tuesday night, September 16 weather permitting.

Bridge deck work, requiring the full closure of the Penn Hills on-ramp to eastbound I-376 will occur from 8:00 PM Tuesday until 6:00 AM Wednesday. Traffic will be detoured.

Route 2068 Navy-Marine Corps Way Improvement Work Begins Friday

PennDOT District 11 is announcing roadway improvement work on Navy-Marine Corps Way (Route 2068) in North Versailles Township, Allegheny County will begin Friday, September 12 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions for inlet repair, and concrete mountable curb and median replacement will occur on Navy-Marine Corps Way between Route 30 and East Pittsburgh McKeesport Boulevard according to the following schedule:

  • Friday night, September 12 from 6:00 PM continuously through 6:00 AM Monday morning, September 15
  • Monday, September 15 through Friday, September 19 – 8:00 AM to 6 PM each day
  • Friday night, September 19 from 6:00 PM continuously through 6:00 AM Monday morning, September 22

Additionally, westbound Route 30 traffic to Navy-Marine Corps Way will be detoured intermittently during the work.

PennDOT District 11 is announcing bridge inspection activities on outbound (eastbound) I-376 (Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Saturday morning, September 13 weather permitting.

Bridge inspection activities requiring a single-lane restriction on eastbound I-376 near the Forbes Avenue/Oakland (Exit 72A) exit just east of the Birmingham Bridge will occur from 6 AM to noon Saturday.

The ramp will remain open.


Route 791 Old William Penn Highway Closure Begins Wednesday in Monroeville

PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of Route 791 (Old William Penn Highway) in the Municipality of Monroeville, Allegheny County will begin Wednesday, September 10 weather permitting.

Old William Penn Highway will close to traffic in each direction between Evergreen Drive and Duff Road from 6:00 AM Wednesday continuously through late September to allow crews to demolish the existing I-376 (Parkway East) structure over the roadway. Traffic on Old William Penn Highway will be detoured.

Route 30 Lincoln Highway Lane Restriction Begins Thursday in Allegheny County

PennDOT District 11 is announcing a westbound lane restriction on Route 30 (Lincoln Highway) in North Versailles Township, Allegheny County will begin Thursday, September 11 weather permitting.

Beginning at approximately 7 a.m. Thursday, westbound Route 30 will be reduced to a single-lane between Broad Street and Denning Way around-the-clock through mid-December. Crews from CH&D Enterprises will conduct roadway widening work, shoulder repairs, curb replacement, and signal foundation drilling.

Two lanes on eastbound Route 30 will be maintained while work occurs in the westbound direction.


Squirrel Hill Tunnel Lighting Repair Work Tuesday Night in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11is announcing lane restrictions in the westbound (inbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel (I-376 Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Tuesday night, September 9 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur in the westbound (inbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel from 10 p.m. Tuesday night through 4 a.m. Wednesday morning. PennDOT crews will conduct lighting repair work within the tunnel.


Eastbound I-376 Parkway West Shoulder Restriction Next Week in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11is announcing a shoulder restriction on eastbound (inbound) I-376 in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Monday through Wednesday, September 8-10 weather permitting.

A shoulder restriction will occur on eastbound (inbound) I-376 between the Uniontown (Exit 69B) exit and the Fort Pitt Tunnel from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day. PennDOT crews will conduct landscaping operations.


Nightly Westbound I-376 Parkway East Restrictions Next Week in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11 is announcing a nightly restriction on westbound I-376 (Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will occur Monday through Thursday, September 8-11 weather permitting.

A single lane restriction will occur on westbound I-376 near the Stanwix (Exit 70D) exit nightly from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM Monday through Thursday as crews from the JET Excavating Company will conduct beam repair work.


Route 2058 Swissvale Avenue Curb Ramp Construction Begins Monday in Wilkinsburg

PennDOT District 11 is announcing ADA curb ramp construction on Route 2058 (Swissvale Avenue) in Wilkinsburg Borough, Allegheny County will begin Monday, September 8 weather permitting.

Lane restrictions will occur on Swissvale Avenue in each direction between Wallace Avenue and Laketon Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through late October. Crews from M and B Services, LLC will conduct the ADA curb ramp construction and crosswalk pavement marking installation.


Westbound I-376 Parkway East Ramp Closure Monday Night in Monroeville

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing paving operations on a westbound I-376 (Parkway East) ramp in the Municipality of Monroeville, Allegheny County will occur Monday night, September 8 weather permitting.

The southbound Route 48 (Haymaker Road) on-ramp to westbound I-376 will close to traffic from 9:00 PM Monday night to 5:00 AM Tuesday morning while crews perform paving operations.  Traffic will be detoured.

Inspection activities, requiring a single-lane restriction on I-376 between the Boulevard of the Allies/Liberty Bridge (Exit 72B) exit and the Grant Street (Exit 71A) exit will occur from 6 AM to noon each day.


Route 885 Bates Street Utility Work Saturday in Pittsburgh

PennDOT District 11 is announcing utility work on Route 885 (Bates Street) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County will occur Saturday, September 6 weather permitting.  

Single-lane restrictions alternating traffic will occur on Bates Street between the Boulevard of the Allies and Second Avenue from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Saturday. Additionally, the following ramps to Bates Street will close to traffic:

·       Westbound I-376 off-ramp to 885 North/Oakland (Exit 73B)

·       Westbound I-376 off-ramp to 885 South/Glenwood (Exit 73A)

Ramp traffic will be detoured.

I-376 Parkway East Crossover Switch Begins Friday Night in Monroeville

PennDOT District 11 is announcing a traffic crossover switch on I-376 (Parkway East) in the Municipality of Monroeville, Allegheny County will begin Friday, September 5 weather permitting.

Currently, eastbound (outbound) traffic is crossed over into the westbound (inbound) lanes. However, starting this weekend, westbound (inbound) traffic on I-376 is expected to be crossed over into the eastbound (outbound) lanes on Monday to allow crews to continue the demolition and replacement of the bridge that carries the Parkway East over Old William Penn Highway. Preparatory work will begin at 9 p.m. Friday night beginning with I-376 in each direction being reduced to a single-lane of traffic between the Penn Hills (Exit 81) and the Monroeville/Route 48 (Exit 84A) interchanges. Crews will conduct barrier installation and line striping operations in advance of the crossover.

Once the prep work is complete, two lanes of westbound I-376 will be crossed over into the eastbound lanes. The new configuration will include two 11-foot lanes of traffic in both directions maintained in the eastbound lanes. The crossover is anticipated to remain in place through early December.

This work is part of the $70.1 million I-376 Parkway East Betterment Project. Work will include a superstructure replacement over Old William Penn Highway, two bridge rehabilitations over Old William Penn Highway/Lougeay Road/Sunset Drive and Thompson Run Road/Thompson Run/Union Railroad, and six bridge preservations along the I-376. Throughout the project motorists can expect long-term single-lane restrictions, several weekends with traffic down to a single lane, and a long-term crossover in 2025. The improvements on the 4.5 miles of the Parkway East between the Churchill/Route 130 (Exit 79B) and Monroeville/Route 48 (Exit 84A) exit are anticipated to conclude in the fall 2026. Swank Construction Company, LLC is the prime contractor.

Eastbound I-376 Parkway East Restrictions Continue Next Week

Eastbound I-376 Parkway East Restrictions Continue Next Week

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing lane, shoulder, and ramp restrictions on eastbound (outbound) I-376 (Parkway East) in Edgewood Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Monday through Friday, August 18-22 weather permitting.

An eastbound (outbound) right-hand lane and shoulder closure will occur from 3:00 AM through 2:00 PM Monday through Friday between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange as crews construct a retaining wall outside of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel near the site of the new Commercial Street Bridge. 

Additionally, during this time, a full closure of the Beechwood Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound (outbound) I-376 will occur. Traffic will be detoured.

It is anticipated that this will be the last week of 3:00 AM to 2:00 PM restrictions before crews begin overnight work from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM weeknights through early October. Additional details will be provided in advance of the work occurring.

The Commercial Street Bridge replacement project will utilize Accelerated Bridge Construction Techniques to laterally slide the new bridge onto the existing alignment of I-376 (Parkway East), which would be one of the largest lateral slide projects performed in Pennsylvania. The $95 million project located between the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange and Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Swissvale Borough and the City of Pittsburgh began in June of 2024 with the reconstruction of the westbound I-376 off-ramp to Forest Hills/Wilkinsburg (Exit 78B). Additional work last season included the temporary relocation of Commercial Street and the Nine Mile Run Trail below the bridge, the relocation of sanitary sewer lines, and portions of phased ITS work. Work in 2025 includes the installation of new sign structures, temporary and permanent piers, abutments, and piles for temporary and permanent foundations, steel erection, and the continuation of phased ITS work. In 2025, nine overnight full closures and detours of eastbound I-376, a full weekend closure and detour of I-376 in each direction, and 35 extended weeknight single-lane restrictions on eastbound I-376 will occur.  In 2026, motorists can expect a 25-day full closure and detour of I-376. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in the summer of 2027.

New Work Zone to be Added to University Line Construction in Uptown Next Week

Starting Monday, May 5, Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s contractor will begin setting up a new work zone along Fifth Avenue between Diamond and Pride streets, on the side of the street closest to PPG Paints Arena. This work marks the start of construction for two new PRTX stations.

Station Locations:

  • Uptown West Station – at Fifth Avenue and Washington Place, next to PPG Paints Arena
  • Pride Street Station – at Fifth Avenue and Pride Street

Crews will begin excavation and install a new sidewalk with curbs and accessible ramps. Electrical crews will also run conduit for future station power and install foundations for new traffic signals and pedestrian poles.

Traffic Changes:

  • Traffic on Fifth Avenue will shift away from the construction zone, toward the side opposite PPG Paints Arena.
  • The existing parking lane on that side of the street will be converted into a permanent travel lane in preparation for the future bus lane.

The construction zone will remain in place 24/7 through the fall.

Once complete, both stations will feature 30-foot bus shelters with upgraded transit amenities.


Route 791 Rodi Road Improvements Underway in Churchill

PennDOT District 11 is announcing improvement work is underway on Rodi Road (Route 791) in Churchill Borough, Allegheny County.

Single-lane and shoulder restrictions will occur on Rodi Road between Business 22 and Maple Lane weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through mid-November.  Crews will conduct shoulder reconstruction, concrete curb and median replacement, and roadway rehabilitation work.
