Symphonie Fantastique!

Mar 16, 2018 - Mar 18, 2018
Heinz Hall
600 Penn Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Robert Spano returns to conduct the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a program of both pieces and composers that have propelled orchestral music forward.  Arguably one of Claude Debussy’s most famous works, Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun explores the dreamy journey of a faun in his quest to achieve his desires.  This concert will also feature the world premiere of former Composer of the Year Jennifer Higdon’s Tuba Concerto showcasing the Pittsburgh Symphony’s very own Principal Tubist, Craig Knox.  There was perhaps no more imaginative orchestrator than Hector Berlioz, and his Symphonie fantastique is a quintessential example of his visionary genius.  Come get swept away by Berlioz’s inventive and psychedelic masterpiece!
