Downtown Pittsburgh is not just skyscrapers and restaurants. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy! Whether you’re a local resident or just visiting the city, you can explore the best that Downtown has to offer. From interactive museums to baseball games, there are plenty of activities for kids of all ages. Here are some activities that the whole family will enjoy!
Downtown Pittsburgh Farmers Market
Get some much-needed fresh air at the weekly Farmers Market in Downtown! Every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., shop local vendors and artisans in Market Square. You’ll find farm-fresh produce, catered meals, and packaged treats that the whole family will enjoy! The season runs from May through October. 🍎

Liberty Magic
Although Liberty Magic experiences are often reserved for those 16+, they also host special programming for kids! Mr. Messado’s School of Magic is one featured program that kids will love. This interactive, one-of-a-kind experience takes place every Sunday at Liberty Magic. It is recommended for ages 8 and older, but siblings 6 years and above can get in on the fun too. 🪄
Pirates Games
Pirates games are the perfect activity for the whole family. There are plenty of shaded areas and rest stations around PNC Park, making it very family-friendly. During the summer months, PNC Park offers Family Fun Days! Families are invited to arrive early on select Sundays to enjoy a pre-game celebration with Pirates inflatables, mascots, and games. Plus, kids get to run the bases after the game is done! The kids play area is located in right field and features bobbleheads, a Lucky Climber pirate ship, and a play bridge. Your kids will have a blast! ⚾️

Heinz History Center
The Heinz History Center is brimming with kid-friendly exhibits. Discovery Place features a wind tunnel, massive foam blocks in the engineering playground, and more! Kidsburgh is another two-tier, interactive play area filled with fun. Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood features a large collection of original props from the children’s show! Located in the special collections gallery, this exhibit is a huge hit with kids! 🏡
Kamin Science Center
The Little Learner Clubhouse at the Kamin Science Center is perfect for young scientists. The colorful gallery features The Water Table, The Clubhouse, The Tomato Stand, The Book Cove, and more! Children ages 6 and under are welcome, along with their families. In the summer months, Kamin Science Center offers countless summer camps for kids of all ages. The Center also hosts student competitions, preschool semesters, workshops, and birthday parties! As Pittsburgh’s most-visited museum, there is something for every aspiring scientist at the Kamin Science Center! 🧪

Fort Pitt Museum
Part of the Heinz History Center, the Fort Pitt Museum teaches kids and families all about Pittsburgh’s place in history. The museum explores Western Pennsylvania’s role in the American Revolution and the French & Indian War. Kids ages 6 to 17 get discounted tickets, while kids 5 and under get in for free! 🇺🇸
Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum
Another addition to the Heinz History Center, the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum is a huge hit with both kids and adults! The Sports Museum features over 70 activities, along with an extensive collection of sports artifacts. Some recent exhibits include “Super Steelers,” “Sport and the Body,” “Beat ‘Em Bucs,” and “A Great Day for Hockey”! Gather the whole family for a day at the museum. 🏈

Gateway Clipper Cruise
Set sail aboard one of the Gateway Clipper’s kid-friendly cruises! The fleet is always adding new adventures, including family favorites like the superhero and princess cruises! Celebrate the start of spooky season with Halloween fun, or ring in the holiday season on a cruise with Santa! 🛳
