Business Resources
As an employer, you may find that transportation to and from work can be a significant issue for your employees. Maybe it’s the cost of gas, or maybe it’s the long waits spent in traffic. Many times, it’s the frustration of finding and paying for parking.
Thankfully, by offering commuting benefits, companies can ease the journey into the office for their workers. Many employers offer free or reduced cost transit passes, bikeshare rentals, carpooling, or vanpooling. Employers choose to provide these benefits because they can:
- Attract and retain workforce
- Save money for employees
- Incentivize return to office
- Reduce traffic congestion
- Improve air quality
- Reduce need for dedicated parking
- Achieve sustainability goals
Below you’ll find a list of commuter benefit options, with instructions on where to learn more or contact a professional who will work to customize their transportation solutions to your needs.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit
As the public transit provider for Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, PRT operates 93 bus routes, three light rail routes, and two inclines.
Public transit is one of the most efficient and affordable options for connecting employees to the office. According to PRT, almost two-thirds of all jobs and almost half of all residents are within walking distance of transit. Many lines, such as the P1 which runs on the East Busway, can travel Downtown in less time than it would take to drive.

Job Perks Program
PRT offers a pre-tax flex benefit that subtracts the cost of transit from employees’ gross pay. This costs nothing for employers, and ultimately saves employees about 30% in out-of-pocket costs.
