ARCHIVAL ADVENTURES: THE SUFFRAGE SHIRTWAIST BALL
Delve into treasures from the Detre Library & Archives that help tell the story of the 1916 Suffrage Shirtwaist Ball, “the Most Democratic Fete ever attempted in Pittsburgh,” which advocated for women getting the right to vote. Then design your own yellow, white, and purple clothing for a mannequin to wear to the ball while listening to orchestral music from the 1910s.
Archival Adventures: The Suffrage Shirtwaist Ball is part of the Women’s History 2020 initiative.
Youth ages 5-8, join us as we explore Pittsburgh stories through games, art, cooking, making, and other hands-on activities. Caregivers and siblings are welcome, but programming is designed for 5–8-year-olds.
