We welcome Portland, Oregon-based folk singer/songwriter Haley Heynderickx for the first time on a tour supporting her debut album, I Need to Start a Garden, released by Mama Bird Recording Co. Heynderickx will be joined by The Westerlies as her band; a New York-based brass quartet who according to NPR Music “explore jazz, roots and chamber music influences to create the rarest of hybrids: music that is both ‘folk-like and composerly, lovely and intellectually rigorous’”. Drawing from her religious Philipino-American upbringing and a range folk music, including guitarists such Leo Kottke and John Fahey, Heynderickx crafts her introspective songs. She has recently toured with the likes of the Low Anthem and Ani DiFranco. Illegal Son opens the evening.
