22 In '22 Guided Trail Ride: Three Rivers Heritage Trail

Apr 30, 2022 - Apr 30, 2022 | 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Bike every trail and fill out your passport along the way. Each trail is less than a 2-hour drive from Pittsburgh and we’ll bike between 10 – 24 miles.  Best of all, each ride includes a discussion of the landscape and history by Earth Science Excursions, LLC geologist Fred Zelt.

Want to explore further? Check out the Wilds Weekends, where we’ll bike into the Pennsylvania Wilds.

Trip #1: Three Rivers Heritage Trail
Let’s cycle together on the first 22 in ’22 outing, to outstanding viewpoints of Pittsburgh’s iconic skyline and bridges! Pedal at a leisurely pace, stopping at the best spots to take photos and talk about the bridges and buildings.

Do you know why the Highmark Building has a huge mast on top? That Pennsylvania Canal boats once floated above the Allegheny River on a wooden aqueduct bridge? Why some bridges have decks that are stacked vertically?

Kids, pets in carriers and e-bikes are welcome! We will pedal less than 10 miles on concrete and asphalt of the riverfront trail, with modest ramp inclines.

Bicycle helmets are required. The week before the excursion we will send those who have registered an email with more information about the path we will be cycling, what to bring and exactly when and where to meet at the start. If you want to rent a bike, we can recommend a bike rental and help transport up to three bikes. This trip is offered in partnership with Earth Science Excursions, LLC.
