Ohlsson completes the season-long Rachmaninoff Cycle performing the virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 4, full of jazzy melodies inspired by Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Slatkin leads the Pittsburgh premiere of his own original composition Kinah, written to commemorate his late parents, musicians of the Hollywood String Quartet. The program closes with Elgar’s Enigma Variations, an ingenious collection of musical portraits depicting Elgar’s closest friends.
