Downtown stays beautiful thanks to our Clean & Outreach Team

Tuesday, November 22, 2022

Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership strives to make our Downtown neighborhood a clean and safe place where everyone can thrive and make memories, and it could not be done without our friendly and welcoming Clean & Outreach Team.

Introducing the PDP Clean & Outreach Team ⬇️

The team is well-traveled in their efforts to make Downtown a clean and safe environment for all. They’re easy to spot in their signature yellow uniforms and friendly attitudes towards everyone that walks by. They are specially trained to be approachable, helpful, and non-judgmental when addressing and managing the public, as well as keep the city grounds well-kept through various services such as removing of litter and graffiti from sidewalks and streets, pressure washing alleyways, and engaging with people experiencing homelessness and panhandling.

Thankfully, the team does not always have to do it alone and is assisted by additional volunteer groups throughout the year. The team is partnered with Renewal Inc., a local workforce development program that guides men coming out of the criminal justice system. The impact of the Clean & Outreach Team cannot be understated, as they work seven days a week, all year long, with the goal of beautifying Downtown so it can be a place that all residents, visitors, and workers can feel proud of and enjoy living and working in.

What The Team is Currently Up To

The summer season ended with the Soul Food Festival Weekend, followed by the fall season with other Downtown events such as The Farmer’s Market and Night Markets. By nature, large events such as these contribute to the uptick in trash collection, which the Clean & Outreach Team take on right away, and they’ve stayed ahead of it for as we enter the holiday season with events such as The Highmark Light Up Night 2022 and The Gas Peoples Holiday Market.

Currently, the team continues to address areas that need further attention, such as removing trash and graffiti, and pressure washing alleyways. With the seasons changing, the team is also staying on-track of leaf removal each day. Also, in preparation for the holiday season, the team grew their workforce by adding two additional Ambassadors and an Outreach Worker, which has reinforced both first and second shift coverage. We cannot thank the team enough in all the efforts they have made this past year and what they will accomplish in the new year!
