HAVE A GREAT IDEA?
The Downtown Pittsburgh Partnership’s (PDP) Placemaking Grant, with generous support from Citizens, is looking for your help to activate public spaces with community events and programming in 2026. It encourages Pittsburghers to utilize and program our public spaces through community-focused events and activations. Whether you’re an experienced creative organizer or a first-timer, we want to hear your ideas.
In its most recent cycle, the program received 50 applications and awarded 18 grants to a diverse range of projects.
Projects included cultural events, public art installations, wellness programming, and performances such as the Juneteenth Parade and fashion showcases. Based on attendance estimates, approximately 5,500 individuals participated in event-based programming, while several public art and space improvement projects remained in place for extended periods, increasing engagement and extending the program’s impact over time. Many funded projects were led by or served underrepresented communities, including Black youth, immigrants, women, and LGBTQ+ individuals, aligning with the program’s goal of inclusive access to Downtown spaces.
The 2026 program will support a cohort of 8 to 10 organizations or individuals, including nonprofits, artists, and community groups with ideas to activate Downtown through public art, cultural programming, and neighborhood-based events. The PDP will work closely with each recipient throughout implementation, providing coordination, guidance, and support as needed.

The Center for Media Innovation brought pressing community issues from the news to the stage in Market Square. The NewsBreak event series tackled essential topics impacting Pittsburgh’s Downtown area, including discussions on how to strengthen the Downtown core by providing support for our most vulnerable residents and strategies for dealing with harassment on the street.
