Inspired by the original German Christkindlmarkts, the 4th Annual Peoples Gas Holiday Market brought a cherished European tradition to Downtown Pittsburgh that mixed international flair with local charm. Visitors experienced a one-of-a-kind holiday shopping village as they strolled through an illuminated Market Square, weaving through Alpine-style wooden chalets, brimming with high quality gifts.

The Peoples Gas Holiday Market in Market Square showcases our diverse cultural heritage with daily live performances and visits to Santa in his Downtown Pittsburgh home right in the heart of the Peoples Gas Holiday Market. In return for a donation to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, guests received a complimentary photo with Santa!

When visiting the Peoples Gas Holiday Market, guests saw the BNY Mellon Season of Lights which illuminated the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh, Market Square, with more than 150,000 lights and a 30’ high electronic sphere tree! Every half hour after dark, Market Square twinkled and danced with a dazzling light show, choreographed to a high energy medley of holiday tunes!

Holiday Windows Display

November 20 – Early January

One of Pittsburgh’s best-loved holiday traditions continues, brightening the windows of the historic Kaufmann’s Department Store with favorites like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Thanks to support from the Colcom Foundation, this year the windows will feature two heritage displays donated by Macy’s and brand new windows designed by the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, The Pittsburgh Ballet, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and Pittsburgh Dance Council. And look for two new holiday windows at Fifth Avenue Place including an art glass Winter Wonderland!

U.S. Steel Plaza Crèche

The larger-than-life Pittsburgh Crèche is the only authorized replica of the Crèche in St. Peter's Square in Rome. The Crèche will be on display from Friday, November 20 - mid-January, 2016 and is a stop on the Holly Trolley.

Santa's faithful reindeer are ready to greet you in our outdoor plaza. Free indoor activities for children, such as face painting, balloon art, sand art, and caricatures.

American Cancer Society's Tribute of Light/Plaza Tree Lighting

5:30 - 6:00 p.m.

The Plaza will glow as over 300 people carry hand-held Tribute of Light memorials, dedicated to someone touched by cancer. The ceremony culminates with the lighting of the breathtaking 65-foot Plaza Christmas tree. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

PPG Place Plaza and Rink

Downtown Pittsburgh's only outdoor ice skating rink is open until midnight on Light Up Night and Magic Ice USA is donating $1 or each skate admission to the American Cancer Society.

Robert Morris University Island Sports Figure Skating

Kick off the holiday season with an on-ice interpretation of Polar Express.
