Downtown Pittsburgh – This morning, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership announced plans for the 55th Annual Light Up Night® that includes a host of more exciting attractions for the official Holiday Season kick off in Downtown Pittsburgh. Scheduled for Friday, November 20, 2015, the festivities are designed to promote the City’s unique combination of holiday attractions and shopping.

“We look forward to Light Up Night® all year long as it launches the most special time of the year in Downtown Pittsburgh,” said Jeremy Waldrup, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. “We are so pleased to welcome incredible national and local talents for an evening for free, family-friendly fun that marks the start of the entire season of holiday shopping, activities and events.”

While the much-loved Light Up Night® traditions will return, this year’s five stages will offer more music, more bands and more musicians than ever before:

  • BNY Mellon New Music Stage on the Clemente Bridge, will be headlined by national recording artist JoJo, local Pittsburgh up-and-comer, Daya, funky brass favorites Beauty Slap, and pop rockers Nevada Color; also prime viewing for the BNY Mellon Fireworks Finale.
  • Xfinity Country Music Stage at Smithfield and Fifth Ave is brand new to Light Up Night and brings three full hours of the region’s best-loved country acts including The Stickers, NOMaD and Cody Gibson; this stage will anchor one end of the Smithfield Street activity zone, which will feature live music, food trucks and activities all night.
  • Northwest Bank Rocking Blues Stage at Smithfield Street and Oliver Street will feature iconic Pittsburgh rockers Joe Grushecky, Jeff Jimerson and Bill Toms along with a round-up of Pittsburgh’s most delicious food trucks.
  • EQT Jazzmasters Stage at EQT Plaza – will be programmed by the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and celebrate Pittsburgh’s rich Jazz heritage with more than 30 musicians spanning three generations. Heat lamps and food trucks will make this a cozy spot to warm up. Performers include Center of Life Jazz Band, The MCG All Stars with special guest vocalists Tania Grubbs and Dane Vannatter, as well as Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra Youth Ensemble.
  • The Peoples Gas Holiday Market Stage in Market Square will feature acapella holiday tunes from local barbershop favorite Chromatics Quartet, which will alternate with the BNY Mellon Season of Lights display that features 150,000 lights choreographed to multi-genre holiday tunes.

Holiday Windows

With the support of the Colcom Foundation and new owners of the former Macy’s building, Core Realty, there will be nine dazzling Holiday windows representing Pittsburgh traditions. Two of the windows have been donated by Macy’s and are original Pittsburgh themed windows. The other seven windows have been designed by local Pittsburgh cultural groups including the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Ballet Theater.

The windows will be unveiled on Light Up Night at 6:30 p.m. Mayor William Peduto will be joined by hometown hero, Meghan Klingenberg of the US Women’s National Soccer team to present the new displays. The windows will be on display throughout the Holiday Season and will be a stop on the free weekend Holly Trolley.

Peoples Gas Holiday Market

On Light Up Night, the Peoples Gas Holiday Market™ in Market Square will open. The charming, European-style holiday market will be open daily from November 20 – December 23 (with the exception of Thanksgiving) and will feature more than 30 vendors of International and handcrafted gifts and a stage filled with entertainment by local bands and performing arts groups.

Tree Lighting Ceremonies

A full slate of eight official tree lightings and ceremonies begins at 11:15 a.m., with the lighting of the tree at the City-County Building, and concludes at 7:00 p.m. with the lighting of Highmark Unity Tree followed by rooftop fireworks.  Additionally, many of Downtown’s signature buildings and businesses, including Fifth Avenue Place, One Oxford Centre and PPG Place, will host a packed Light Up Night® schedule of music and family activities.
