Market Square Weekly Farmers Market Returns Tomorrow
Earlier Start Time, Extended Season and New Vendors

PITTSBURGH, PA — Fresh produce, flowers, smoked meats, salsa, berries and homemade specialty foods will make their seasonal debut in Market Square starting tomorrow for the early return of the Thursday Market Square Farmers Market. Sponsored by Right by Nature and organized by the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP), the market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature 11 vendors.

In its fifth year, the Thursday Market Square Farmers Market is part of the PDP’s Thursdays in the Square promotion and will run from April 30 through mid-December. It attracts hundreds of office workers, residents and visitors to Downtown each week.

“Customer demand and vendor success has enabled us to start the season earlier and extend it by several weeks to accommodate holiday season shoppers,” said Mike Edwards, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.

Two new vendors will join the offerings this year: Callifonte Foods (pasta, sauce, soup) and Billy’s Country Smokehouse (smoked meat, sausage, jerky, bacon). For a complete list of participating vendors, visit www.DowntownPittsburgh.com/Market-Square.

“Market Square is a truly unique urban space, which makes the Downtown Farmers Market unlike any other in the region,” said Edwards. “All vendors are from the Pittsburgh region, which makes buying fresh, locally-produced foods convenient for Downtown workers and residents.”

Thursdays in the Square: Noon Concerts

June 4 will mark the start of the Thursday noon concert series, sponsored by Star 100.7 and KDKA Radio. The first concert, to be held on Market Square’s stage during the lunch hour, will be Walter Ino from Strangeway. Additional bands will be announced in the coming weeks and updates will be posted to www.DowntownPittsburgh.com/Market-Square.
