The Studio at Contemporary Craft is offering a workshop to celebrate MLK Day with handmade ceramic Friendship Bowls instructed by Kevin Snipes. Find inspiration by listening to Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. In response to the iconic speech, participants will be led through image making on small handmade porcelain bowls. Kevin Snipes will further engage participants in artistic expression by sharing his personal experiences as an African-American ceramic artist. Kevin Snipes has an extensive background in ceramic art. Snipes received a B.F.A. in ceramics and drawing from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1994. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including a recent solo exhibition at the Society of Arts and Craft, Boston; Akar, Iowa City and Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis. Learn the pinch technique from Kevin Snipes to form the bowls and then use underglaze colors to ornament them. The finished pieces will later be glazed and fired, becoming an indelible reminder of the spirit of peace, equality and friendship.
